Speaker Bio and Introduction
Please join PMI-OC for the July Dinner meeting featuring Jason Scott. Jason Scott is an experienced and accomplished project management practitioner who began his career in 1990 with the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the Navy Achievement medal for the successful completion of projects, including the replacement of shipboard supply chain management systems for the Western Pacific Fleet.
 
After completing his tour of duty, Jason joined Universal Music Group and within his first year was promoted to Director and tasked with and successfully managed the Polygram and Universal Music merger for the distribution division. In late 1998 Jason was asked to plan and manage Universal Studios’ Global Y2K project, which completed ahead of schedule.
 
Currently, Jason is the CEO and founder of 120° Venture Construction, a boutique project management consultancy firm principally serving the needs of Fortune 100 companies. He has dedicated his career and livelihood to the advancement of project management and recently patented a project management methodology that yields consistent, repeatable results and has ensured the success of hundreds of projects for the company’s clients.
Presentation Description
The demands on project management are higher than ever and to succeed you must innovate.   But who says you have to invent new tricks, innovate by going back to the basics. In this interactive session Jason will share with you five real-world project management tools drawn from practical experience managing complex projects for large enterprises such as Universal, Sony and the U. S. Navy.  
 
Lesson 1: Executive Communication & Status matters
·         3 types of Communication – Starting with never ask how to perform your job
·         Executive Status – building credibility by leveraging the quality not quantity of every executive interaction
·         The 3B’s rule
Lesson 2: Building an effective Work Plan – Forecasting and Communication
·         Never turn your back on the rich dialogue develop during the Charter exercise
·         Work Plan Structure – Keeping it simple, not emotional 
·         Lead, don’t confuse: Gathering and communicating status directly for Scope and Objectives
Lesson 3: The purpose of identifying Risks during planning
·         Refresh on the definition of Risks and Constraints
·         Why there is nothing wrong with Constraints
·         Risks are not scary
·         Now what? How to rock them once you have identified the risks and mitigations
Lesson 4: Identifying, prioritizing and coming up with appropriate responses to Issues
·         What’s the “Issue”? - Anything that impacts planned work
·         Every issue has a degree of Risk – How to accurately identify “How much”
·         Some proven work plan rules required to identify the degree of Risk
·         CPI Date – Why wait until the critical path is breached?
Lesson 5: Project Health – How to successfully leverage it as a tool
·         Why Health isn’t scary or meant to create urgency
·         Why Health must be objective to be meaningful
·         How Health starts with the task, extends to the issue and rolls up to the project

Online registration at the "In Advance" pricing is available until 10:00pm PT one day before the scheduled event. Reservations made after that time will be charged the "At the Door" pricing and must be made in person day-of at the event. For online registrations, we accept only credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) and payment must be paid in full at the time of registration. For walk-in registrations, we accept cash, checks, and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express). If you register for an event online and receive an error message or are unsure if something is wrong, please contact us as soon as possible
Cancellation Policy
